PURE Action, Inc., an Austin-based nonprofit committed to researching the physical and mental benefits of yoga on populations worldwide, kicks off 2016 with One Posture at a Time – Austin Chapter, a 90-minute Bikram yoga class supporting the addiction and recovery community in Austin. The class is held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. every Saturday at PURE Bikram Yoga, in downtown Austin.
“Drug and alcohol addictions are ravaging our society, and we need to take action now,” says Community Programs Director Tedd Li. “After bringing yoga to several greater Austin area recovery and rehabilitation centers over the last three years, we’ve received countless testimonials of how a regular yoga practice can aid in an addict’s recovery. Many of these centers’ graduates have added yoga to their recovery program, and we have helped graduates continue their care by offering them a free unlimited month of yoga at participating studios. We are excited to have another opportunity to introduce more people in this community to the healing benefits of a regular yoga practice.”
PURE Action and PURE Bikram Yoga welcome the recovery community to these weekly donation classes. Those that attend this special weekly class may also receive a 30-day Yoga Discovery Pass for yoga classes at PURE Bikram Yoga, Sukha Yoga, Breath & Body Yoga and BFree Yoga—all supporters of PURE Action’s mission.
PURE Action also offers a weekly Healing Yoga class aimed at supporting immigrants, asylees and victims of human trafficking.
