Family Diabetes Resource Center (FDRC) is a local nonprofit created to be a temporary financial support to assist families that have children living with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes. While most diabetes-related nonprofits raise money for the cure of the disease, FDRC helps with the “here and now” struggles by filling the gaps of the traditional support systems through financial aid.
FDRC was founded by a mother whose 18-month-old son was diagnosed with Type 1. Her journey led her to answer a call to find a way to support these families that work so very hard to keep their children healthy and alive. FDRC currently offers grants to families to support costs related to the disease and has recently added a program to support children attending diabetes camp. FDRC is preparing to support families more fully by offering insulin pumps, which assist in better management of blood sugar, independence for the child and piece of mind for the parents or caregivers.
FDRC will be launching an Indiegogo campaign on April 1 to raise $50,000 to purchase insulin pumps and one year of medical supplies to help these families rise up. For more information, visit FamilyDiabetesRCTX.org.
