Prediction: Rainwater Harvesting Is In the Future

Oct 24, 2016 09:19AM

The recent heavy rains serve as a reminder that it’s wise to be ready to capture and store rainwater for droughts we know will come again. A good place to learn about the beauty, benefits and many ways to harvest rainwater is at the seventh annual Rainwater Revival, to be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., November 5, in Dripping Spring.

The Rainwater Revival is the largest event of its kind in Texas to teach and celebrate the wonderful things that can happen to homes, landscapes and businesses when people look to the sky for their water supply. The annual free event is presented by the Hill Country Alliance, in partnership this year with the Texas Rainwater Catchment Association and the Hays County Master Naturalists.

The day-long “edu-fest” has something for everyone: speakers throughout the day, vendors and exhibitors showing off rainwater harvest equipment and supplies, educational demonstrations, music from La Tampiqueña, food and beverage trailers and a children’s eventspotlights area with fun, water-themed activities.

Each year the Rainwater Revival raises funds for the Hill Country Alliance school grant program for water conservation education. This year, an online raffle with prizes themed All Things Hill Country will be held now through November 5. Tickets are $5 each or five for $20. One raffle prize is an incredible two-day retreat on the Llano River, near Junction. Other raffle items include a 1,000-gallon rain storage tank; a day of wine tasting for eight; a visit to Bracken Cave for 10; and other great Hill Country experiences. The Hill Country Alliance is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to raise public awareness and build community support around the need to preserve the natural resources and heritage of the Texas Hill Country.

Location: Drippng Springs Ranch Park, 1043 Event Center Dr., Dripping Springs. For more information, visit or To purchase raffle tickets, visit
